The Mittelschwaben Railway is a single-tracked branch line in Bavaria which is approximately 55 kilometres long. The railway connects Günzburg and Mindelheim via Krumbach and so the main lines Bavarian Maximilian Railway (Munich-Augsburg-Ulm-Stuttgart) and the railway from Munich to Zurich via Buchloe, Memmingen and Lindau (Bodensee).
The section between Günzburg and Krumbach was built in 1892, the section between Mindelheim and Pfaffenhausen in 1909 as a part of the railway between Mindelheim and Kirchheim in Schwaben. The gap between Krumbach and Pfaffenhausen was built in 1910. The section between Pfaffenhausen and Kirchheim in Schwaben was closed and dismantled in 1966. Not only this section but the entire Mittelschwaben Railway was in dangour to be closed a few times. The goods traffic was closed down on the entire Mittelschwaben Railway in 1997 but the passenger traffic isn't in dangour to be closed today because it was modernized, the driving time became shorter and the linking to the main lines in Günzburg and Mindelheim was improved. Most of the trains run from Günzburg to Mindelheim, only some drive on to Ulm respectively Memmingen. Stations of intersection are in Ichenhausen, Krumbach and Pfaffenhausen.
